Happy October!

To celebrate the fact that it is FINALLY my favorite season, I’m kicking off October by participating in my very first Blogtober!

That means I’ll be sharing one blog post per day – and I intend to keep them on the spoopy side! 🎃

I have to admit that it is only slightly starting to feel like Fall here in Los Angeles. The weather won’t get with the program for a while yet, so I’m here lighting my spooky candle, stocking up on pumpkins, and insisting to myself that it is, in fact, finally here. I’m living vicariously through all of you that have legitimate seasons – oh, and pinning all the fall vibes, of course.

There are lots of reasons why Autumn is my favorite season, and most of them don’t even have to do with pumpkin spice lattes! (Though that is on the list…)

My newest addition to the list?

OKTOBERFEST!

Last year, Sohrab and I had the opportunity to visit Munich during Oktoberfest. Since both of us are big fans of Germany and Bier, it was the perfect way to introduce ourselves to the country. We met up with two of our good friends (who we met on our honeymoon in the Germany section of Epcot!) and had the time of our lives dancing on tables and wandering the carnival.

It’s true – Oktoberfest isn’t JUST about the beer! It’s a gigantic, family friendly carnival held on the Theresienwiese in Munich, and it just so happens to be littered with lots of huge beer tents. The mayor of Munich hosts the opening celebration, tapping the first keg of the festival at 3pm, and the party continues for two weeks.

Fortunately, while the original (and largest) Oktoberfest celebration is held in Munich, there are plenty of options to party throughout the world, including right here in my hometown of Los Angeles! So while we can’t make it to Bavaria this year, we’re definitely participating in the festivities from afar.

Sohrab and I were married in the fall

I don’t know what it is about Autumn that just puts me in a good mood. Is it because it’s the beginning of the holiday season? Is it the cooler weather? Either way, it was an easy decision when Sohrab and I were choosing a season for our wedding.

Our colors were gray and yellow, our theme was Marvel, and we were married on a perfect October day in 2015. Just another reason to love Autumn! We’ll celebrate our 3rd anniversary on the 3rd – where has the time gone?

It’s the only season that has two names in (American) English

Word nerd alert. Why is it that Spring, Summer, and Winter each have one name, but Fall/Autumn has two? Yes, this is the kind of stuff that I think about.

It turns out that the words for Winter and Summer have been around for more than 1,000 years, while Spring and Autumn are much newer. Spring used to be called Lenten, and Fall references leaves falling. So while Spring has become more universal lately, both Autumn and Fall have stuck around in North America. If you’re in England, go with Autumn, but if you’re in North America, feel free to choose what feels right in the moment. Both work!

It’s the start of something good

September (and, likewise, Autumn) marks the beginning of a season of celebration for the Osati family. Sohrab’s birthday is in late September, our wedding anniversary is in early October, lots of family birthdays are sprinkled throughout October and November, my birthday is at the end of November… Oh, and don’t forget Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas! From the beginning of Fall to the new year, everything just feels a bit more cheerful. Between the holidays, anniversaries, and birthdays, we have lots of reasons to celebrate – and decorate!

Pumpkin Spice Lattes

Oh, come on. You knew this one was coming. Obviously Starbucks popularized the PSL to the point of cult status, but lots of smaller coffee shops offer the flavor, too. In fact, one of my favorite things to do around this time of year is go to different places and try their seasonal drinks. It’s a delicious way to include my beloved daily cup(s) in the fall spirit!

YOUR TURN: What are some of your favorite ways to ring in a new season? Do you love Autumn, or are you more of a Summer person?
