May Day

They say April showers bring May flowers, and while it hasn’t rained much in LA in the past month, I think I understand what “they” mean.

The fact is that it could mean so many different things. You could get through the hell that is April and finally see the light in May. “May Day” could be more of a desperate plea than a celebratory day. Or – and this is my preference – you could work hard in April, nurturing your crop, and reap the benefits in May. I like to think that the latter is more true to the term, and that the world is filled with more sunshine than shadow.

It’s not always easy to stay positive and on your A-game all the time. Rest days are vital. It’s as true for creativity and productivity as it is for a workout routine. You can’t push it to the limit without accidentally going over it sometimes, so chill. Sit back every now and again. Let yourself recharge and replenish. A nourished mind is more often inspired.

That reminds me! I might apologize to you before you click play on this earworm:

April wasn’t exactly a difficult month for me, but it was challenging and full of opportunities. One of the ways that I worked through it was to shout a resounding “YES!” to those opportunities – the April showers for my May flowers. I don’t know exactly how they will bloom, but it’s inspiring to know that I have planted a seed and that I have the ability to push forward towards realizing my goals.

And so I bid you a happy May Day. A happy Lei Day. Happy first day of a new month. Get out there are achieve your dreams.
