We belong together... not!

We belong together… not!

Life lesson learned.

We went to Home Depot a while ago and put in an order for a Whirlpool dishwasher and a GE range. We put them on the same order and were told that they could be delivered to the condo tomorrow – February 18th. The appliances would come from different manufacturers but they would be delivered together by a company called Temco. We clarified with Wael, our contractor, that the date would work for the renovation timeline, and he assured us that it should work. I got a call late last week assuring me that the appliances were on track to be delivered to us on Tuesday, and that I could call them to reschedule if I needed to.

This morning, I got a “courtesy call” from Temco to let me know that they would not be able to deliver the dishwasher and range because they don’t have them from the manufacturers yet. I found out, through a lengthy call to Whirlpool, that this wasn’t entirely true. Whirlpool was able to call GE and clarify that the range had been delivered to Temco already; it’s the dishwasher that’s on backorder. She told me an approximate availability date for the dishwasher, which was helpful, but get this: it’s March 15th. Almost a month away. Ummm.. so much for getting our stuff tomorrow.

So that’s frustrating, but I get it. The dishwashers were way oversold, and they are just trying to catch up. I’m grateful that she was so helpful and nice. It’s just a bummer.

So we figured that we’d be able to call Home Depot to fix it up; remove the dishwasher from the order, move forward with the range, get it tomorrow as planned, etc. Nope. We’ll have to cancel the entire order, place an entirely new order for the range, and wait that much longer (arguably, it’s reportedly 3-4 days… hopefully that’s true) for that order to go through. There’s no simple way about it. It’s messy.

I called Home Depot and the guy seemed to be confused. It was kind of awkward. Regardless, we’ll have to go to Home Depot in Canyon Country with our paperwork to cancel the order and place a new one. Hopefully this mixup doesn’t set us back too much. We can live without a dishwasher for a while; it’s a luxury item. But it would be lovely to have a range upon moving in.

So, lesson learned. Don’t put your major appliances on the same order. If one is set back, so is the other. The end.
