Happy July! Now that we’re a few weeks into summer, I’ve been daydreaming about beach days, splashing around in pools on unicorn floaties, and sipping on margaritas as the sun sets. And now, the 4th of July is just a couple days away!
Over the years, I’ve celebrated the 4th of July in tons of ways. From partying at the beach in San Diego with my big family to finding some fireworks in the San Fernando Valley to watch from the back of mom’s big red truck, every year brings something new. This year is no different – in that it is different. In that I’m not really celebrating. Not the way that commercials on daytime TV would prefer me to, anyway. 🤔
So if you, like me, aren’t planning to head to any 4th of July parties, fear not! There’s still plenty of options for you to make the most of your day off. (You do have the day off, right?)
Have a stay-at-home spa day
Light some candles and get out the foot spa. Spend a day pampering yourself!
There’s nothing quite like rebooting in the middle of the week. Draw up a bath, put on some music, and get to relaxing!
Whether you love the scent of lavender or prefer a jolt of coffee, CocoRoo has the perfect 100% natural lotions and body scrubs to get yourself in the zone. Not only do their products smell incredible and make my skin feel soft and healthy, but also, CocoRoo is woman-owned and everything is made in the USA. (See how I tied that in with the 4th of July?!) Plus, with code ‘allegra’ you can get 15% off your entire purchase! My faves right now are the coffee scrub and the lavender lotion. One wakes me up, and one helps me sleep, all while doing wonders for my skin. ✨ Not to mention that their social feeds give the perfect beachy vibe to fulfill that surf and sand craving we all get during summer, no matter how far you live from the beach!
Work on beating that video game (or binging that tv show)
You’re not done with God of War yet? How about Detroit: Become Human? Now’s the time to catch up. Take the day for yourself, put on your PlayStation headset, and dig into your favorite world. Here are four games you should consider starting (if you haven’t already!):
- God of War (make all the dad jokes!)
- Detroit: Become Human (androids and AI!)
- Destiny 2 (fight aliens…!)
- FIFA 18 (play as your World Cup team!) ⚽️
Not to mention the plethora of shows that we haven’t caught up on. For instance, Sohrab and I still have 46 shows that we want to watch but haven’t finished. 😅 So, there’s that. #netflixandchill Here’s a little snippet from our list:
- Black Mirror
- Colony
- Silicon Valley
- Veep
Plan out your month
Anyone else here a planner geek? July is only getting started, and with only a limited time of what we can technically call summer (someone please tell the weather in SoCal!), it’s important to make the most of summer, summer, summer time!
The best way to do that, of course, is to have a plan(ner)! I’m a huge fan of bullet journaling. It’s the perfect way to take note of everything you want to in exactly the way that works for you. My favorite bujo is the Leuchtturm1917 – it’s so sleek, the dots are just visible enough to use but not so obnoxious that they get in the way, and there are so many colors to choose from! My fave is the Anthracite right now, but I’m already working on figuring out which color to go with for 2019.
Speaking of color, when I feel the need to spruce up my weeklies, I’m obviously reaching for my Tombows. I’m really enjoying trying my hand at calligraphy with them, and they have tons of different color packs (ahem… red, white, and blue anyone?). 🇺🇸
Make your own 4th of July recipe
One of the summer treats I always think of first when it comes to the 4th of July is definitely watermelon!
