It’s been a long year – and it’s only February! We’ve been through some tough times as a nation – as a world – but here we are, still fighting for what’s right.
Four weeks ago, Sohrab and I woke up before the sun to venture to downtown LA with my parents and what ended up being approximately 750,000 other people to march in solidarity with Washington. The alarm clocks on our phones rang out, confused, at 6 am. We rarely start our day before 8 – but this day was different. We had a plan, a purpose. And coffee. We were ready to take on the world.
And so we did. A pleasant Saturday morning walk, surrounded by nearly a million of our closest friends. The camaraderie was palpable. The love was contagious. We had all come together with one heart.
This was just the beginning of my passion. The feelings I felt were kicked into high gear and has resulted in nearly a month of pursuit. Sohrab and I are now donors to the ACLU and members of our local (and new!) LA GenR chapter, a part of the International Rescue Committee.
It’s been a tough year – and it’s only February. But the hardships and frustrations we have experiences have only kindled the fires within us.
We will not go quietly into the night!
We will not vanish without a fight!
We’re going to live on!
We’re going to survive!
Okay, so our planet hasn’t been invaded by apocalyptic aliens just yet – but this chant has been resounding in my mind, and I will continue to allow it to inspire me to push forward. To fight for what is right.
