Delays in Many Ways
It feels like everything has been delayed at least once. This time, it’s the renovation – again. Sure, it’s only until “Monday,” as they say, but they promised (even up until this past Monday!) that we would be done by the first of March. Sohrab got a text yesterday morning explaining the new schedule:
The Search for a Wedding Venue Continues and Dishwasher Drama
WEDDING STUFF:
We’ve been looking at wedding venues for a little while, making a list of what we’d like to look at more seriously. At the very top of the list was Petersen Automotive Museum, a modern place with a cool rooftop space that I was really keen on for the ceremony. I called the museum this past Sunday to see if I could get some more information about booking a wedding there, but the special events coordinator wouldn’t be in until Tuesday. No matter; I called back and was able to speak with her.
Bad news bears. She was wonderful to talk to but she told me that they wouldn’t be booking any events for 2015 because they’re doing a full-fledged renovation from January to October (or maybe even November) of 2015. NOOOOO. So, I guess we know where we aren’t getting married. Sad pandas. I suppose it wasn’t meant to be. On to the next one.
The Delivery Is On And All Is Well
I’m posting twice in a day because things change quickly.
I recently received yet another call – automated, this time, from Temco – to tell me that our appliances would be delivered tomorrow. Thinking this might be in error because of the aforementioned issues in my previous blog post, I called the number that the machine provided me in order to set it straight. It turns out that it won’t be a problem to deliver the range tomorrow; since they have it they can bring it to us. It’s just the dishwasher that’s an issue. Since it’s on backorder, we won’t get it for a while yet. But that’s fine. How easily a complicated situation can be fixed, sometimes.
Don’t Put Your Dishwasher and Range in the Same Order
Life lesson learned.
We went to Home Depot a while ago and put in an order for a Whirlpool dishwasher and a GE range. We put them on the same order and were told that they could be delivered to the condo tomorrow – February 18th. The appliances would come from different manufacturers but they would be delivered together by a company called Temco. We clarified with Wael, our contractor, that the date would work for the renovation timeline, and he assured us that it should work. I got a call late last week assuring me that the appliances were on track to be delivered to us on Tuesday, and that I could call them to reschedule if I needed to. read more…
Smooth Ceilings and Paint and Water Lines and…!
February 8th:
Day 4
The ceiling is scraped and the walls are being painted!
But we didn’t know that they had started to paint, so we didn’t get a chance to tell them which walls we would like to be the accent walls. The colors we chose are Cracked Pepper (accent) and French Silver (main color) from Behr. At first, we were worried that they had painted all of the walls in Cracked Pepper because the walls were so dark, but then we realized that all was well. Silly us.
Is This Real Life? A Prelude to Renovation
Oh my goodness, you guys.
It’s finally out there. Everyone knows. We finally have the keys.
And the renovation starts today.
Going UP!… to Homeownership
It’s hard to believe the day is finally here! We are getting the keys to our condo this afternoon. Is that why the day is passing so slowly?
Only a few people know about the house right now, and we’ve always prefaced the news with “but it’s not 100% yet.” Well, now it is 100%, and today it becomes public knowledge. I’m about to burst.
I want it to be clever and appropriate to our relationship. So I want it to be an UP-themed announcement. UP is our movie. Our engagement was UP-themed at Disneyland. I’m going to get a blue balloon on the way north this afternoon, and I want to take a cute picture in front of the house with the key and the balloon and my fiancé and oh my goodness I can’t wait.
On Going to Vegas While in Escrow
It’s been a little longer than I would have hoped since I wrote. That’s because January has been crazy, and we’re only halfway through!
Sohrab and I went to CES last week, driving north to Vegas on Monday the 6th and driving home to LA on Saturday the 11th. We stayed at Circus Circus, as we have each year since 2011 (since the Sahara closed after our first year at CES…). We learn something new every year we go, and this year wasn’t without its hitches. Sohrab got sick near the end, and he’s still battling a cold and finally getting his voice back (a process that he’s likened to puberty all over again…lol). I’ve had back pain since Thursday night, and it’s nothing to laugh at. It’s pretty darn painful. Sad pandas. The show itself was fantastic – we enjoyed scouring the Sony booth for the newest technology (and our next TV… :D) for SonyRumors.net, and test driving BMW’s newest addition to their lineup, the all-electric i3. We both really enjoyed the car and we look forward to getting to drive it again sometime.
16 Dresses
Today, I tried on 16 dresses.
We’ve been engaged since July 8th, 2013, and Sohrab gave me wedding planning stuff for Christmas to say “let’s do this.” We’re getting married in September 2015, so there’s still plenty of time to enjoy the process and plan the wedding of our dreams.
Today, I found the dress.
I haven’t actually said yes quite yet, because I’m going to sleep on it. But I’m in love, and I can’t wait!
Contingencies
Happy holidays! We’re in the thick of the season and of our contingencies. We had the home inspector come out to the condo on Thursday, December 26th, and once we discovered that it had gone well (aside from galvanized pipes instead of copper, which the HOA would be responsible for if it becomes an issue), we decided to remove the inspection contingency. There were, of course, the little things. The seller will need to install a carbon monoxide detector, for instance. There are a few missing electrical outlet covers.
All in a day’s work.
