Let’s Make Lemon Garlic Green Beans!
Now that fall is here (or so they say), it’s time to spice up your dinner table with something yummy and festive. Harkening back to the hot days of summer (never mind that we’re still in the hot days of fall), we bring some snappy green beans together with lemon zest, garlic cloves, and red pepper flakes to keep it interesting. read more…
Thoughtful Thursday: Home
Sometimes I feel trapped by sameness. The same frustrations and pet peeves circle round and round in the same space, suffocating me.
Don’t get me wrong. There’s solace in the sameness. The comfort of the notion of home. But the truth is that home is not a place – it’s a feeling. Being surrounded by the ones you love. That strength in feeling safe, well-grounded. read more…
Let’s Make Banana Streusel Muffins!
Food is more fun in muffin form. Sohrab laughs at me, because of course I would say that. But I’ll have you singing this tune soon enough once you’ve tried these yummy from-scratch banana streusel muffins!

Thoughtful Thursday: Traveling Through Time
Sohrab and I recently started watching Outlander. I didn’t know what to expect – other than the fact that everyone I talked to about it highly recommended it. Without giving anything too grandiose away, it’s about a World War II era British woman being thrown back two centuries to the Scottish Highlands of the 18th century. Yessir – time travel. She’s left to question everything about her life and the world she’s seen the future of. The very notion of living through history has become a reality for Claire Randall. read more…
Bullet Journaling for Beginners
Like everyone you know on the internet (and perhaps otherwise), I have started a bullet journal. I’ve tried it before, to no avail. I have notoriously little patience for habits, and even something like the bullet journal, which fascinated me and my unruly creative mind, was unable to sway me. This time is different. read more…
Let’s Make Burgers!
Burger season is all the time. That’s why, when Sohrab and I had a craving recently, we decided to make our patties from scratch rather than scouring the outside world for a cure. What could I say when we found perfect little gluten-free hamburger buns in the freezer aisle at Whole Foods? I didn’t have the strength to say no. Finding a good gluten-free bun is a challenge that has taken us across Los Angeles in hopeful search. And yet, they were right there, in our neighborhood grocery, waiting for us this whole time. Who knew? read more…
Thoughtful Thursday: Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice
It was a lovely 72° as Sohrab and I strolled around the local farmers market, like we do every Sunday. This was the first time it was pleasant. For the past several months, it has been a chore to venture out into the bright sun as it beat down onto the vegetables. read more…
Let’s Make Berenj (With Tahdig)!
Let’s make what with what?
Rice – with a little bit of magic.
I was first introduced to this dish a little over seven years ago when Sohrab and I started dating. It quickly became one of my favorite things – a gateway drug, as it were, to the world of Iranian food. It’s part side dish, part appetizer. read more…
Thoughtful Thursday: Watch Out, World.
Last night, I was ready to take over the world.
This morning, I fumed, my eyes doused in hot, bitter tears. Even the orange of my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season couldn’t tinge the red I saw. My thoughts infused with guilt and anger, I gulped the dregs of my precious PSL with remorse. I was mad at the world, mad at nothing, mad at everything. read more…
Let’s Make Rotweinkuchen! (German Red Wine Cake)
I’ve never been to Germany. Heck, I’ve never been to Europe. But there’s something about the language – the culture – the food… that draws me to the Land. I’m not quite sure when the infatuation began; was it our honeymoon journey to Epcot, giving us just a little taste of what Deutschland has to offer? Or was it way back in high school, when a good friend was taking German classes, and I scowled through Spanish in jealousy? read more…
