Hotel pillows are notoriously lacking in the support department. Sometimes, while settling in for a long night of Zs away from home, I sink so deep into the pillow that I figure it might be better to forgo one at all. That’s why, after returning from four nights at Circus Circus in Las Vegas for CES 2016, I was pleased to see a large – and unexpectedly heavy – box addressed to Allegra Osati (still not used to that…!) waiting for us. Sohrab and I had finally decided to pull the trigger on two standard Hullo pillows to change up the way we sleep.
The sleep space is a hot spot for modern companies right now. Everything from what you sleep on to how you sleep on it is being challenged; if you have a smart home, your bedroom should be included in that. The path to health and wellness is reevaluated by this movement, placing the importance of quality sleep at the top of the list.
I’ve always been a sleep enthusiast, but only recently have I delved into the many ways that I can improve my sleep. With their organic buckwheat pillows, Hullo caught my attention. I hadn’t considered that there are other (better!) options for filling pillows – but it turns out that buckwheat pillows are very popular in Asia for their unique combination of malleability and support. I’m a side sleeper with wide shoulders, so being able to adjust the height of my pillow is a big plus for me.
One concern that often comes along with sleep products is the ability (or lack thereof) to try a new one out before committing. It’s difficult to know whether I will still enjoy my new pillow after sleeping with it for a little while. Hullo made that an easy problem to dismiss by offering a 60-day return policy, no questions asked. It’s now been a month, and so far I’m feeling great about my choice, but it’s nice to (still!) have the flexibility to return the Hullo if it ends up not working out between us.
Check out these photos (starring Fred the panda!) to check out the change from our original memory foam pillows to the buckwheat Hullo pillows. You’ll notice less structure – which allows for more flexibility, and therefore better support! Perfect for a side sleeper like me and a stomach sleeper like Sohrab.
Now that it’s been some time since we started testing out Hullo, I can confidently say that these pillows are a big step up from any type of conventional pillow that I’ve tried before. While it took some getting used to, I can’t imagine sleeping on anything else now. If you like sleep, and you like the idea of trying something new, try Hullo. Seriously – you won’t be sorry.
