Six weeks from right now, Sohrab and I will be on a Virgin Atlantic flight to London. It’s hard to wrap my head around! Even though I already crossed “traveling to a different country other than the USA and Mexico” off my list last September when we spent a couple weeks in Germany, there’s something special about this countdown. London is its own bucket list item. The United Kingdom has captured my imagination for as long as I can remember.
Despite the hoopla Sohrab’s surprise gift created at Christmas, it still hasn’t sunk in that we are actually going. Perhaps we’re too far out. Perhaps I’ve been dreaming about it for so long that it still feels like a dream. Either way, yeah. I’m stoked.
To prepare myself mentally for our April adventure, I’ve surrounded myself by UK-esque things (ahem… even more than normal). I’m catching myself up on The Crown. I’ve started following Fortum & Mason on Instagram. We watch an episode of House Hunters International every time we have lunch at home. And, of course, I’ve prepared my office wall for the inevitable merch we’ll find on the other side of the pond:
There’s a story behind every item I’ve put up here, and every one that’s waiting in the wings until after we return from London (as it stands, our houses are severely misrepresented… but all that will change once we return!) Alas, while I daydream, I have to set aside some time to finish planning. There’s still so much to be done. We know where we’re staying for both portions of the trip – we’re dividing it up between Harry Potter and muggle London! – and we know we’re going to see Cursed Child. That is, after all, the reason we’re going in April rather than any other time! Between that and the Warner Brothers Studio Tour, we pretty much have the Harry Potter portion sorted.
Now the only question is… do we bring our robes?
